Lisbon, Portugal, is preparing to host the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 3, following the European Football Championship and Rock in Rio, two highlights that marked 2004. The big musical event is regarded as the "Musical Oscars."
Lisbon competed with Paris and Copenhagen to host this event. Welcoming a host of international stars, Lisbon will be the center of attention for around one-thousand million TV spectators. Five-thousand visitors and 800 journalists are also expected.
The selection of Lisbon was based on four factors: the city's rich historical heritage, its cosmopolitan spirit, vibrant music culture and the excellent facilities offered by the Atlantic Pavilion.
