Beginning May 2006, Rocky Mountaineer Vacations introduces Whistler Escapes, eight packaged tours featuring Canada's newest train, the Whistler Mountaineer. These short-break vacations range from three to five days and can be added to a cruise, a Rocky Mountaineer rail vacation or taken alone.
With northbound and southbound departures, seven days a week, the Whistler Mountaineer features British Columbia's magnificent scenery, including waterfalls, the Pacific Ocean and mountain peaks. The train leaves North Vancouver at 8:30 am and arrives at Whistler Village at 11:30 am. Southbound departures leave Whistler at 2:30 pm and arrive back in North Vancouver at 5:30pm.
Rocky Mountaineer Vacations has two packages for Alaskan cruise ship visitors. Pre-Cruise Escape and Post-Cruise Escape are two nights/three days long and include rail and motorcoach transportation to and from Whistler, two nights' accommodations and admission to the Whistler Gondola. Transfers to and from the cruise ship terminal are also part of these packages.
Onboard, attendants provide a meal service and commentaries about the region. The Glacier Dome is a single-level, custom-built dome coach complete with panoramic views and a refined yet relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast or afternoon tea is served to guests at their seats, depending on which direction they are going. Coast Classic features large picture windows, assigned seating and a light meal service. All passengers have access to the Heritage Observation Car, which puts everyone closer to the scenery.
