The Carlsbad International Film Festival takes place June 30 to July 8 in the Czech Republic. One of the longest running film festivals in Europe, the Carlsbad International Film Festival began in 1965. This year, the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema goes to the legend of Czech film, Jan Nemec.
Karel Roden, star of Czech stage and screen, is a member of this year's jury. He has appeared in Czech and foreign films, including Blade 2, Bulletproof Monk and 15 minutes, in which he appeared with Robert De Niro.
In the main film competition, the Czech Republic is represented by Jan Hrebejk's new film, Beauty in Trouble. The Indian and the Nurse, will compete in the East of the West category at the Carlsbad festival, which focuses on the best films from central and Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union states, shot in the previous year.
The Carlsbad film festival will feature over 200 titles. Six films commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of American director, scriptwriter and actor, John Huston. Humphery Bogart, Sean Connery, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Angelica Huston, Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando will appear on cinema screens. The Visions of Seven category offers insight into French society. Other categories include Focus on British Film, cult films and films from the Sundance Film Festival, established by Robert Redford.
The UherskE HradiSte Summer Film School, July 22 to 31, features the largest-ever screening of sub-Saharan African films in the Czech Republic, the biggest-ever screening of Canadian films, Czech and international film personalities, African music and art, workshops, lectures and children's events.
