Of all the accolades and "best of" honors bestowed on San Francisco, the city finally has something to really howl about. In an upcoming book by Julia Szabo, The Underdog: A Celebration of Mutts, San Francisco is dubbed the "#1 Muttropolis" in the US.
Szabo names San Francisco the best place to have a dog, be a dog and play with a dog, citing such "doggone great" attributes as an unprecedented level of donations from San Francisco's citizens to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, beautiful OLA (off leash areas) and a 2003 ordinance which changed city codes to include the word guardians whenever "pet owners" are mentioned.
