Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival takes place in late November and early December. The Fiji festival showcases the best musical and dance performers in the South Pacific islands, including indigenous musicians, dance theatres and cultural exhibitions.
Where is the Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival? It is held at leading destination resorts, in and near Savusavu on Vanua Levu, Fiji's second-largest island.
The music festival includes ticketed evening performances and a Jungle Night event on the final day. Held in Savusavu town, this free public celebration also features regional crafts, meke and other activities.
The first Savusavu Music Festival was held in 2004. Local and international music and dance performers compete.
The winner of the Fiji String Band Competition performs at each of the music festival venues. The finals of the Fiji String Band Competition, a national event, are held in Suva, Fiji's capital city, before the festival.
Featured musicians include groups from South Pacific islands, such as Fiji, Hawaii, Vanuatu, Tahiti and New Zealand. Festival tickets include admission to the musical events around Savusavu, during the four days.
Key sponsors include Air Pacific, Fiji's International Airline, the five-star Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, with 25 individual bures on a 17-acre coconut plantation, and Koro Sun and Rainforest Spa, which offers all-inclusive stays in 18 bures and three grand villas. These sponsors have special promotions to encourage North American visitors to the Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival.
