Seabourn Cruise Line has announced that the new 450-passenger all-suite Seabourn Odyssey will launch from Italy in mid-2009. A sister ultra-luxury ship will be built within the next three years.
Although the $250-million flagship will be three times larger than the 10,000-ton Yachts of Seabourn, it will cruise with only twice as many guests, according to Pamela C. Conover, president and CEO of Seabourn Cruise Line.
Luxury suites
Thirteen categories of ocean-view suites will range in size from 286 to more than 1,300 square feet. Ninety per cent will have private balconies.
The 32,000-gross ton Seabourn Odyssey will boast four dining options, a thalassotherapy pool and private deck in a two-story spa, a concierge lounge and a large poolside patio.
The two new ships will boast the same on-board amenities as the 208-passenger Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend ships, such as complimentary alcoholic beverages, including French Champagne, first-class menus created by Chef Charlie Palmer, open-seating dining, free on-deck mini massages, Molton Brown products and a complimentary Exclusively Seabourn shore excursion on each cruise.
The staff-to-guest ratio is nearly one-to-one. No tipping is required.
Seabourn Odyssey itineraries
The two new ships will cruise Seabourn's most popular destinations, allowing the Yachts of Seabourn to cruise to new destinations.
When it launches in June 2009, the Seabourn Odyssey will offer Mediterranean cruises. In January 2010, it will begin its first world cruise. A preview itinerary brochure will be distributed to past passengers in early October. A catalog of Seabourn Odyssey maiden-year voyages will be available by December 2007.
Reservations for maiden-year cruises require a $1,000 deposit per person. Maiden voyage deposits are $2,000 per person. Because a strong demand for bookings is expected, first priority will be given to passengers who cruise with Seabourn in 2007 or 2008. Guests, who previously cruised on Seabourn ships, will have second priority.
Yachts of Seabourn
Between September 2007 and April 2008, Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend will undergo a multi-million dollar makeover. Renovations will increase seating capacities in two open-air dining areas and give guests more evening entertainment options, including dancing and movies under the stars.
The Veranda Café becomes Restaurant 2, in the evening, for casual dining. A larger renovated outdoor area will seat more people. A new awning will protect them from rain.
Sky Grill dinners are periodically served above the sun deck and whirlpool spas, in The Sky Bar. Renovations will replace the double stairways from the lower deck with a single staircase, to allow more deck space next to the Sky Bar. Removable furniture will make deck space available for entertainment and dancing.
The ships will add upgrades to bedding in suites and treatment rooms in The Spa at Seabourn, new carpeting in several public areas and new furniture in card rooms and Internet centers.
Renovations of the Seabourn Pride are complete. Seabourn Spirit will be renovated in January, 2008 and Seabourn Legend in April, 2008.
